The Evangelical Church in Donsbach

The Evangelical Church Donsbach is a listed church building in Donsbach , a district of Dillenburg in the Lahn-Dill district ( Central Hesse )

The complex with a square choir and a rectangular nave was built in 1754 on the site of an almost 300 year old, dilapidated chapel , whereby the community went into debt. In the great fire of 1791, which destroyed a large part of the village, the church burned down to the foundation walls. However, the remains of the wall were still so stable that the reconstruction could begin. The church tower was immediately given a slate roof, while the substructure of the ship, which was initially thatched, was built so stably that it would later be able to support a slate roof. When the building was finished, it was initially used as a storage room for the donated natural items on the instructions of the lordly bailiff until they were sold, transported away or otherwise used.

The metal of the molten bell recovered from the fire ruins was handed over to the bell founders Rinker and Bach in Hungen , who had been awarded the contract to cast a new bell; this bell announces deaths in the village today.

In March 1911, lightning struck the church tower, but did not cause any major damage as the pouring rain prevented a fire.

Two more bells were financed through donations in 1956. The bell tower was renovated accordingly for the installation. In 1966 the church was given a white exterior plaster and later a gold-plated weathercock .
