Evangelical Church Mettingen
The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Mettingen , a municipality in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The original church was built in the 12th century. Originally it was dedicated to St. Agatha . During excavations in 1966, the foundations of two previous churches were found. The older one was a flat-roofed hall building with a recessed, square choir and dates from the first half of the twelfth century. During this time, today's west tower, which was not originally vaulted, was built. The second church was a late Romanesque , somewhat wider vaulted hall. The north portal of this church from the middle of the 13th century has been preserved. Today's nave is a late Gothic hall church with a three-sided choir closure. The two-part windows are made with fish bubble tracery.
Furnishing
- The apostles on the choir walls are affected by multiple restorations.
