The Evangelical City Church of Rastatt is the church of the former Franciscan monastery in Rastatt .

history

The solemn laying of the foundation stone of the church took place on July 4, 1702. After the death of Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden , his widow Franziska Sibylla Augusta took over government affairs and made Lorenzo di Sale , the student of the architect Domenico Egidio Rossi , the new court architect .

Lorenzo di Sale changed the floor plan and enlarged the windows. On May 30, 1717, the church was consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary . The monastery was abolished during the secularization . In 1805, Napoléon Bonaparte's troops used the church as a warehouse for hay and straw . The monastery inventory was auctioned and the district office and the district court moved into the monastery buildings .

Since 1807 the church has been the church of the Protestant parish of the Michael parish.

organ

In the course of a general renovation between 1985 and 1987, the church also received a new organ . It was built by the organ building company Heintz (Schiltach). The carved veil boards were designed and made by the freelance sculptor Carsten Lewerentz from Staudach-Egerndach.

The organ is in the choir room and has 35 registers with 8 independent deductions, distributed over four manuals and pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The III. and IV. Manuals (Récit and Réconance) are swellable.
