Carsten Lewerentz (* 1959 in Übersee am Chiemsee) is a German sculptor .

Life

Lewerentz attended the wood carving school in Berchtesgaden from 1975 to 1978 . His training was continued with the sculptors G. Rumpf and R. Szymanski . From 1980 he worked as a freelance sculptor in the studio of the Westerbuchberg Gallery before opening his own studio in Staudach-Egerndach in 1987 . He has received various prizes and grants, such as "Art and Nature Conservation" from the community of Übersee (1986), ARTS Culture Promotion Prize Traunstein (1993), Int. Riedersbach steel symposium in Upper Austria (1994), working grant for the “FUSCARTE Sculpture Meeting” in Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse (1995) and grant from the Otto Flath Foundation in Bad Segeberg (2006). From 1990 to 1997 he also directed courses at the School of Fantasy in Traunstein.

The studio window in Staudach-Egerndach

Lewerentz has been running the “studio window” in Staudach-Egerndach as an exhibition space since 1999.

The natural installation “Biotope of Transience”, commissioned by the municipality of Prien am Chiemsee in 2014, was destroyed again in 2016 as a result of a narrow majority decision by the Prien municipal council with great media interest.

As part of various memberships in art associations, there have been repeated exhibitions and solo exhibitions, for example in Übersee, Traunstein, Wasserburg, Prien am Chiemsee, Rosenheim, Munich, Salzburg, Linz, Szentendre (Hungary).

plant

  • Free sculptures and sculptures made of wood, bronze and textile-reinforced concrete on the subject of “enveloping human existence”: Since 1999 Lewerentz has been following a new path in the representation of humans. Removed clothing in a seemingly random arrangement manifests itself in wood or bronze to form an image of the person. In a subtle way, it reflects its appearance and nature, such as the shells of hatched dragonfly larvae remind us of a different state of being. Lewerentz's works mark the borderline between the inner and outer being of a person and constant change.
  • Ornaments and veil boards, especially for organ building, e.g. B. for organs in Wolfach (1982), in St. Lorenz Oberföhring (1986), in the Protestant city church Rastatt (1987), Grassau (1987), Immanuelkirche Mannheim (1988), Oberhausen Mitte (1989), Bad Rappenau (1992) , Kelsterbach (1993), Lippertskirchen (1997) or the organ of the Filharmonija Warsaw (2000), Birstein (2002)
  • Sculptures and sculptures in the public and church areas such as B. Baptismal font cover in Grabenstätt (1988), protective mantle Madonna in Maria Eck monastery (1988), tabernacle in Marwang (1989), memorial plaque from the 1945 bombing in Traunstein (1990), lectern and altar table in the Protestant church in Prien am Chiemsee (1994 / 95), summit cross on the Hochplatte (1995), shopping bag in Grassau (2011), biotope of transience in Prien am Chiemsee (2014)
  • Organization and design of exhibitions by professional sculptors and painters in the "studio window" in Staudach-Egerndach , probably the smallest artist house in Germany. In addition to living, predominantly regional artists from the Chiemgau, visual artists who have been forgotten were also presented (e.g. Käthe Seele or Prof. Wilhelm Srb Schlossbauer )
