Gernot Rumpf (born April 17, 1941 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German sculptor and medalist .

Rumpf is the son of the Palatinate sculptor Otto Rumpf , who in turn came from a family of sculptors in Kaiserslautern. His mother was Martha Rumpf, b. Young.

Gernot Rumpf has been married to the sculptor Barbara Rumpf (* 1960 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) since 1981 , with whom he has four children. He lives in his wife's birthplace.

education and profession

After graduating from the Altsprachliches Gymnasium (since 1964 Kurfürst-Ruprecht-Gymnasium ) in Neustadt, Gernot Rumpf completed a degree in sculpture from 1964 to 1970 with a diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professors Josef Henselmann and Hans Ladner . In 1965 he opened his own bronze casting workshop . From 1967 to 1969 further training took place through a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation .

In 1973 Rumpf received a teaching position at the University of Kaiserslautern , which was converted into a professorship in 1979 . In 1980 and 1983 he was visiting professor at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg .

Rumpf was best known for his fountains and sculptures with Palatine and biblical motifs, which were not only found in German cities, but z. B. can also be seen in Jerusalem and Tokyo . Part of the work was done with the artistic assistance of Rumpf's wife.
