Evelyn Gibson Lowery

Evelyn Gibson Lowery (born February 16, 1925 in Memphis , Tennessee , † September 26, 2013 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was an  American  civil rights activist.

Live and act

Lowery was the daughter of activists Rev. Harry Gibson and Evelyn Gibson. Her father served as chair of the NAACP in her hometown. Evelyn Gibson Lowery attended Clark Atlanta University and Youngstown State University and married the US pastor Joseph Echols Lowery in 1950 . In 1965 she first took part in the Selma-Montgomery March . In 1979 she founded SCLC / WOMEN INC , a sister organization of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference .
