Everardo Armenta Junior (born May 20, 1968 in Los Mochis , Mexico ) is a retired Mexican boxer and leader in the light heavyweight division .

Life

Everardo Armenta was born the last of three children. He started boxing at the age of twelve and won several Mexican junior championships during that time. After a successful amateur career, he decided to switch to the professional camp at the end of 1987.

Professional career

In the spring of 1988 Armenta switched to the professional camp. He played his first professional fight on September 7, 1988 against José Torres . He was able to defeat this in the second round with a technical knockout (TKO).

He won most of his development fights , only Nestor Maciel , a later European champion, was able to defeat him twice in two fights by knocking out in the fourth and third round. Shortly thereafter, he won the Mexican light heavyweight title against Enrique Noriega . He successfully defended this four times, up to a lightning knockout loss against the world-class traded Lupe Aquinto . He also suffered a defeat in the next fight against Frank Tate . This knocked him out three times in the eighth round and won by TKO. Until then, Armenta hadn't been able to land a single impact hit.

After he was later able to defeat the two boxers Joaquin Felix and Cesar Rendón by knockout, he rose to the top of the list of the world association WBO and was thus allowed to challenge their carrier Dariusz Michalczewski , who was still at the beginning of his career with just 27 fights and only later three of the could unite four world associations. As expected, Armenta had no chance against Michalczewski and lost in the fifth round by knockout.

The rematch against Frank Tate went controversially to Tate after Armenta, clearly ahead with points, was disqualified for hitting after the separation signal. Until then, Armenta had dominated every round and often brought the heavily marked Tate to the edge of a knockout.

Armenta won his next fights. On June 23, 1996 he fought against Michael Nunn , who went into the fight as the clear favorite and defeated Armenta by TKO in the eighth round.

After he had fought a few more fights against lesser known opponents in 1998, he announced his retirement from boxing.

comeback

In 2009 Armenta tried a comeback. Between 2009 and 2010 he played three fights, of which he won the last two. Despite the comeback, he announced at the end of 2010 that he would be stepping down from boxing for good.
