Everett Hosack

Everett Hosack (born February 28, 1902 , † July 29, 2004 in Asheville , North Carolina ) was an American senior athlete . Together with Lesley Amey , Erwin Jaskulski , Ben Levinson , Waldo McBurney and Philip Rabinowitz, he belonged to the group of those who competed in competitions after the age of 100 (there is no women in the over 100 age group yet (2006) started).

After completing his studies, Hosack initially worked for General Motors for a short time and then moved to the New York Central Railroad , where he worked for 41 years. From the age of 68 to 88 he worked for a dairy company that supplied supermarkets in the Painesville area . He also served on the Highland Heights City Council for 11 years and in the presbytery of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church for 18 years.

On September 28, 1935, Everett Hosack married Elsa, then 25, a decorator who also worked as an appraiser and bankruptcy administrator.

Everett and Elsa Hosack lived in Highland Heights for around 50 years, where they owned a farm. Hosack had created a running track around the farm to keep himself fit. They spent their twilight years in Chagrin Falls . His wife died in 2002.

Athletic career

Everett Hosack has had two sporting careers. The first he started as a hurdler in 1923 at the University of Florida , which he continued after graduating with the New York Central Railroad. This had its own sports team. As a result of the economic depression , however, his employer was soon no longer able to finance the team, and Hosack gave up competitive sport.

His second, much more successful career began several decades later when Hosack joined the Over the Hill Track Club in 1980 . In the course of around 20 years, he set more than 50 age-class world records in running, jumping and throwing disciplines, of which the following are proven:

Hosack set a world record in weight throwing 14 times in a row. His favorite discipline, however, was hammer throwing .

At the Senior World Championships in Buffalo in 1995 , he won four gold medals in the M90 ​​age group in the disciplines of long jump, throwing pentathlon, 800 m run and 1500 m run. In 2002 he was honored with the Masters' Award Track & Field. On June 18 of the same year, Everett Hosack was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
