Life

Origin and family

Everhard von der Mark came as the son of Count Engelbert von der Mark and his wife Mathilde von Arenberg of the ancient Westphalian noble family in the county of Mark . He had eight siblings, including Adolf (heir), Engelbert (Archbishop of Cologne) and Eberhard (also heir). He was a nephew of Bishop Adolf von Lüttich and the Provost Konrad von der Mark .

Career and work

Pope John XXII. Everhard gave a cathedral canon in Liège on May 12, 1236, which his uncle Conrad had renounced. As Liège canon he received a cathedral canon from the Pope on June 4, 1326 in Cologne and six years later in Trier. After waiving his brother Engelbert on Domkantorei he was in the years 1345 to 1349 Cologne cathedral cantor . At that time it was quite common to fill multiple positions. This explains why Everhard was mentioned in a document on January 28, 1339 as provost of the cathedral in Münster. In 1348 he resigned from his offices and married Countess Maria von Lohn.
