Max Harwood plays Jamie New in the title role

Directed by Jonathan Butterell based on a script by Tom MacRae , who wrote the musical of the same name with Dan Gillespie Sells . This, in turn, is inspired by the television documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 by Jenny Popplewell and tells about the teenager Jamie New, who really wants to be a drag queen. His mother Margaret gave him a pair of red high heels from Meadowhall for his 16th birthday . Jamie's best friend Pritti encourages him to go to prom in a dress. In a shop for drag queen clothing called "Victor's Secret", Jamie befriends the owner Hugo and learns everything about his past as a drag queen. It is also Hugo who gives him his first appearance as a drag queen in a nightclub and also gives advice on the choice of his dress.

Young actor Max Harwood took on the title role from Jamie New. Richard E. Grant plays Hugo Battersby, aka Loco Chanelle, and is played by John McCrea when he was younger . Sarah Lancashire plays his mother Margaret New and Sharon Horgan plays the career counselor at his Miss Hedge school.

A UK theatrical release is scheduled for October 21, 2020 On October 22nd, 2020 it will be released in German theaters and the following day in US cinemas.
