(EE) Evgenij Kozlov ( Russian (Е-Е) Евгений Козлов , transcribed (JE-JE) Evgeni Kozlov ; * 1955 in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg ) is a Russian painter who lives in Berlin . The addition EE is his artist name and has been his sole signature since 2005.

Life

Kozlov's early interest in art was encouraged by attending middle school at the Muchina Art Academy in Leningrad (Stieglitz Academy again since 1994). In 1978 he became a member of the artist group "Letopis". Subsequently, from 1982 to 1989, he was a member of the "New Artists" founded by Timur Novikov, the most important non-conformist artistic movement in Leningrad, which he influenced through his style. His atelier “RUSSKOEE POLEE” (The Russian Field, 1989–1991) at Fontanka 145 was a meeting place for artists, curators and gallery owners. There he made the acquaintance of the Berlin curator Hannelore Fobo, with whom he opened “Russkoee Polee 2” in Berlin in 1994; the studio existed until 2008. In Berlin he continued his collection of Russian art “2x3m”, with which he specializes in works by contemporary Russian artists in this format.

One of the first exhibitions in Germany was "The Way of the Ocher- Colored Elephants" in 1991 at Kampnagel in Hamburg ("Le Passage des éléphants ocres" in coproduction with the Center Culturel, Cherbourg, also 1991). With Oleg Kotelnikov, Marina Koldobskaya and Evgenij Kozlov, it showed three artists from the unofficial art scene in Leningrad and showed an excerpt from Kozlov's work from 1989 to 1991, including large-format works from the series “The New Classic”.

In 1998, the artist painted commissioned by the Berlin House of Representatives the portrait of Mikhail Gorbachev for the gallery of honor citizens in the Berlin House of Representatives.

"Miniatures in Paradise" was the title of Evgenij Kozlov's exhibition at the Victory Column in Berlin . The sixteen so-called miniatures, original paintings on fabric in the format of 5 × 2 meters each, comparable to " Gonfanons " - procession or church flags - were raised on flagpoles on June 15, 1995 at the "Big Star". The exhibition had to be stopped prematurely after four of the “miniatures” were stolen by unknown fans.

Maurizio Cattelan , Massimiliano Gioni and Ali Subotnick included Evgenij Kozlov in the 2007 list of 100 “great solitary masters”.

In 2013 he was a participant in the 55th Venice Biennale . His multi-part series of images, The Leningrad Album, was shown in the central exhibition, Il Palazzo Enciclopedico .
