Evi Lanig

Evi Lanig (born October 24, 1933 in Hindelang / Oberjoch im Allgäu ) is a former German ski racer . With six German championship titles and two runner-up championships, she is one of the most successful German skiers.

Lanig was German champion in downhill skiing three times in a row between 1953 and 1955. In 1954 and 1955 she also won the combined title and in 1955 the first ever giant slalom championship.

In 1952 she took part in the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo and achieved ninth place in the downhill race as the best place. In January 1956 she won the giant slalom of the SDS race in Grindelwald . The 1956 Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo were supposed to be the high point of her career, but a few days before the opening she injured herself during training and marched into the ice rink with the all-German team with her forearm in plaster .

Her younger brothers Hans-Peter and Axel were also ski racers. She was married to bobsleigh driver Lorenz Nieberl (1919–1968).
