Evolva is a computer game made by Computer Artworks . It was released on April 1, 2000. The aim of the game is to rid the universe of parasites. The game can be played in single player as well as in multiplayer mode (LAN, Internet). Evolva's website closed a few years ago because the game is out of date.

Game flow

Evolva let the player control one of four co-op contractors on the team . The player steered his character over the surface of an alien planet and had to execute shooter- typical tasks, which of course countless hostile creatures tried to prevent him. The player had to fight this with his AI-controlled colleagues.

Now the outstanding aspect of the game appeared: after a certain number of enemies were killed, the player could carry out genetic manipulations on his fighters in order to improve their properties. The changes took shape differently depending on the type and number of enemies killed. If, for example, a large number of fire-breathing beetles had been killed, the genohunter could also acquire the ability to spit fire through genetic manipulation. The changes to the shapes were effectively depicted by a graphics engine capable of morphing .

Genohunter and their characteristics

There are four "Genohunter":

  • Agilo: maneuverable and agile
  • Speed: Fast and therefore ideally suited for distraction maneuvers
  • Sumo: Has the brutal power of a wrecking ball
  • Intello: light, fast and accurate

Censoring

In the German version, the blood has been censored by turning it green. The foreign versions have red blood. With a registry patch, the blood color can be changed to red, green or brown. Evolva has received the USK -16 seal in Germany . In the United States, the game was classified as "Mature".

Advertising copy

The advertisement for the game featured a genohunter with a very deformed head. This picture was subtitled with a quote from the German Bundestag from 1989: “ We will not allow laws that allow genetic manipulation of humans. "

Reviews

The trade magazine PC Games certified Evolva “ breathtaking animations and exotic landscapes that look alive ” and recommended the game to all fans of demanding action games.
