Ewa Sowińska

Ewa Barbara Sowińska (born March 5, 1944 in Bromberg ) is a Polish doctor and politician. From 1977 to 1980 she belonged to the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR), from 2003 to 2004 she was part of the Catholic National Movement ( Ruch Katolicko-Narodowy ), and in 2004 she joined the League of Polish Families (LPR). From 2004 to 2006 she was a member of the Sejm . From April 7, 2006 to June 30, 2008, she was the Government Commissioner for the Rights of the Child. In 2012 she joined the Solidarity Poland party , where she is the spokesperson for the Lodz Club.

Controversial proposals

In 2006, Sowińska proposed the mandatory registration of wild marriages. In March 2007, she asked for a list of jobs to be drawn up that gays and lesbians are not allowed to practice. In the first half of 2007 she defended in a letter to Pope Benedict XVI. Archbishop Stanisław Wielgus, who fell into disrepute for spying on the State Security .

In May 2007 she suggested that the male figure of the Teletubbies Tinky Winky was propagating homosexuality because of her purple color and the red women's handbag and was therefore no longer allowed to be broadcast. Sowińska wanted to have her suspicions checked by experts. For this she was mocked in the media worldwide; the Washington Post awarded Ewa Sowińska the bronze medal at the 2007 Idiot of the Year Awards . The Polish government decided not to take the exam.
