Executioner was an American thrash metal band from Boston , Massachusetts that was founded in 1984 under the name Last Generation and split up in 1989.

history

The band was founded in 1984 by singer and guitarist Marc Johnson, bassist and singer Ari Vianio and drummer Dan Scannell under the name Last Generation. After developing the first songs, the band first appeared on the sampler Speed Metal Hell with the song Victims of Evil . In the same year, the debut album In the Name of Metal was released on New Renaissance Records . The release was followed by a US tour, along with Voivod , Kreator , Saint Vitus and Dream Death . Seth Putnam was also represented as the new bass player on this tour . In 1987 the second album Break the Silence followed, after which Putnam left the band again to found Anal Cunt . To Break the Silence four songs were included who had already been heard on the debut album. The release was followed by more appearances, as well as a few more demos with the new bassist Tommy Flynn. In 1989 the band broke up. The already recorded demos could later be heard on the compilation The Storm After the Calm .

style

The band played chaotic Thrash Metal, with both the vocals and the playing of the instruments being described as poor. Also idol Kühnemund from Rock Hard magazine slating the music: it is a complete mystery why a band like Executioner would get a record deal, even though there were already better bands in demo stage. The titles of the albums are described as unimaginative and the band should rehearse more instead of recording LPs .
