Seth Edward Putnam (born May 15, 1968 in Boston , Massachusetts , † June 11, 2011 ) was an American musician .

In the course of his life he founded many bands, all of which (with the exception of Impaled Northern Moonforest, which is a satire on Black Metal ) can be classified in the field of grindcore . His most famous band is Anal Cunt .

life and career

Seth Putnam says he is of English and Irish descent. Putnam was married.

Before founding the band Anal Cunt, Putnam played in various extreme metal bands such as Executioner and Satan's Warrior's and wrote for several fanzines . Even before Anal Cunt he was looking for conflicts with bands like Possessed and Wargasm . In 1988 he founded Anal Cunt.

Putnam was a heavy drinker for years and unwilling to change anything, and tried other drugs for months at a time. In 2004, a suicide attempt with an overdose of zolpidem caused a stroke that put Putnam into a coma. After his rehabilitation phase he was only able to walk with a crutch; initially he sat in a wheelchair when performing live.

On April 14, 2007, Putnam appeared as a surprise guest at the celebration of the 40th birthday of Olaf Korth von Flachbrand, a split partner of Anal Cunt, and performed some Anal Cunt pieces.

On June 11, 2011, Seth Putnam died of a heart attack at the age of 43 .

His extremely explicitly chosen lyrics and his connections to right-wing extremism as well as his racist beliefs have sparked heated ethical discussions within the grindcore scene. Many of his fans argue that provocation and the undermining of any social norm are an integral part of Grindcore; Offensive texts, such as that of the song Hitler Was a Sensitive Man (by Anal Cunt), are therefore often interpreted as pure provocation. However, due to his participation in the white power band Vaginal Jesus , this is questionable. In addition, he expressed himself personally discriminatory, for example he criticized the anti-Semitism allegations against Mel Gibson in an interview in 2007: "Jews sucks [...], they all deserve to be f * ckin 'killed. [...] He should have been gotten reward for saying that sh * t ".
