Example of an S1MP3 player

As S1MP3 player referred to several off-brand MP3 players, all based on the same hardware architecture and use Actions ATJ208x chips.

Typical characteristics

  • All S1mp3 players work with an Actions ATJ208x chip (mostly 2085).
  • You have Hynix - or Samsung - NAND Flash (128 MB up to 4 GB),
  • a Philips TEA5756 low power FM tuner chip ensures radio reception,
  • and a Z80 processor performs the arithmetic operations.
  • You use * .amv / * .mtv as the video format
  • and * .act for audio recordings.

Types

There are now many different types of S1MP3 players, they can be roughly divided into two groups:

  • MP3 players have ordinary MP3 player functions
  • “MP4” players have a color OLED or LCD on which photos ( JPEG / GIF ) and videos (in the special formats MTV and AMV) can be displayed. The term "MP4 player" is therefore incorrect, as MPEG videos are not supported.

Firmware

All S1MP3 players have similar firmware . It can be updated with the program "MP3 Player Upgrade Tools", which is usually included in the delivery - this is a big problem because many s1mp3 owners make their players unusable by installing the wrong firmware files. Even with supposedly correct operating software, there are often problems because the players are almost identical from the outside, but the minimal hardware differences can lead to malfunctions.

Specifications

  • 24-bit DSP with on-chip DSU
  • 8-bit Z80 CPU with on-chip DSU (runs from 24.576 MHz up to 60 MHz software-controlled)
  • USB 2.0 full speed (corresponds to USB 1.1 speed)
  • works as a USB mass storage device
  • supports MP3, WMA, some models also Ogg / Vorbis
  • Equalizer function
  • Record from the built-in microphone or radio
