dnt was the trademark of the former German electrical engineering manufacturer wireless communications technology . The company's purpose was, among other things, the development and implementation of wireless technologies.

Wireless communications technology GmbH & Co. KG. (1968–1988)

DNT was founded in 1968 by Wolfgang Brunner as a GmbH & Co. KG with headquarters at Sodener Strasse 55 in Fischbach (Taunus) and mainly produced radio equipment , but also other products, e.g. B. radio receivers , wireless intercoms and others.

The company's success story began above all with the approval of the CB radio by the Ministry of Post on July 1, 1975. A real boom for the so-called Jedermann radio set in because for the first time since the end of the war it was possible for every user to use free radio frequencies . As a pioneer from the very beginning, Wolfgang Brunner contributed to the establishment of this new radio standard. In what was then a growing market for CB handheld radios and on-board radios, the Kelkheim-based company sold 750,000 leisure radios between December 1, 1975 and November 1, 1976. In November 1976 there were 17 providers of leisure radio antennas in the Federal Republic of Germany , among which DNT was the market leader in this market segment at the time.

In 1979 the mobile radio devices "S-Line 540 Mark III" and "Kurier 5000 digi" as well as the home station "meteor 5000 digi" each received the iF product design award .

After the regulations were changed or expanded several times by the Ministry of Post in the 1980s, on April 12, 1983 with Official Gazette Order 55/1983, 40 channels were for the first time in the FM modulation plus 12 channels with a maximum of 1 watt transmission power in the AM modulation Approved. The German working group for CB and emergency radio , as well as the relevant manufacturers of the time, including DNT, represented the interests of CB radio operators vis-à-vis the responsible administrations and authorities.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the manufacturer's radios were also marketed by Quelle under the “ Universum ” brand , for example handheld radios from the “HF-12” series or the “twinmod 2001” and “meteor 3000” CB mobile stations.

The company, which was last located in Dietzenbach , was liquidated in February 1988 and the company was thus extinguished in its original form. Until recently, successful radios were produced on the market. For example, in issue 8 of the year in the magazine break you could still read about the radio scanner models "scanner" and "night line": "Seldom has a mobile device received such good marks as the scanner from dnt in our test report from February '88."

Wireless communications engineering development and sales GmbH (1989–2018)

On December 18, 1989, the articles of association for the wireless communications engineering development and sales GmbH with headquarters in Dietzenbacher Voltastraße 4 was concluded. Karin Brunner was the managing director there, then from 1996 to 2008 Andrea Brunner, and from 2008 Helmut Flugel.

Wireless communication devices continued to be developed there under the dnt brand with a slightly revised logo. B. cordless phones , WLAN - Internet radios , headsets , MP3 sticks , but also products such as digital microscopes.

CB mobile station dnt Carat

At the beginning of the 1990s, radio equipment manufacturing turned to the selective call (5-tone sequence) according to the ZVEI standard, and in contrast to the competitor stabo , this was built directly into the "Carat exclusiv" devices without additional devices. The "dnt zircon" models of the new "Profi line", which were launched on the market in 1992, sent two additional tones with caller identification in addition to the 5-tone standard. Another device in this "Profi line" was able to evaluate these two additional tones and show the identifier in the display of the person who had selected. This Dnt-typical ZVEI selective call with 5 + 2 tones was subsequently used in other devices of the brand. The "dnt Zirkon" was voted "Device of the Year" in 1993 by the readers of the trade magazine CB-funk and was awarded the "CB-funk Oscar 1993". In 1994 the Dietzenbach-based company presented its " Michael Schumacher Collection" at the 70th edition of the international radio exhibition in Berlin, consisting of "three top-class CB radios with the names Monza (handheld radio), Hockenheim and Silverstone (mobile devices)", such as The book Seventy Years of Radio Exhibition by Heide Riedel, published by the German Broadcasting Museum , can be found. In 1999 a so-called “Mousephone” was introduced, an analog telephone integrated into a PC mouse with dial buttons , which enabled hands-free telephoning at computer workstations . Under the model name “Pentastic”, DNT presented a dictation machine with 32 megabytes of memory and a recording capacity of up to two hours, which at that time was considered a “particularly handy variant” .

In July 1999, the radio magazine reported that the company was probably the only German CB radio manufacturer to be represented with a stand at the 1999 Berlin radio exhibition. However, the company mainly presented telephone and fax machines as well as accessories there, since at this point in time these were already "characterized by the focus on entertainment electronics, telecommunications and (recently) information technology". At the beginning of 2001, DNT decided to give up the CB radio area due to the "strongly declining demand", but to continue to ensure the service and the dispatch of spare parts. The development in the LPD (SRD) and PMR446 segment is not affected. In Munich at Systems in October of the same year, DNT was the only hobby radio operator represented there. In 2002, the first combined PMR446 / LPD handheld radio was brought onto the market in Germany under the model designation “XLP 77” .

In 2009 the wireless loudspeaker system "Sound2Move" received the iF product design award.

Still, for the fiscal year 2006 could DNT to the financial statements, total assets of over 4.8 million  Specify the company whose balance sheet total alone in the years 2011 to 2016 with a decrease of about 2.42 to about 1 million  more when halved, was put up for auction in April 2018 due to bankruptcy. In May 2018, the company was deleted; the dnt.de website is no longer available.

The manufacturer's products, such as optical tools, measurement technology, reversing systems , FM transmitters, are still on sale from electronics suppliers (as of January 2019). Telephone models from the manufacturer are, for example, in the collections of the museums of the Museum Foundation Post and Telecommunications .
