history

The band was formed in 1985 by guitarist and vocalist Brian Lawrence, bassist Ted Williams and drummer Mike Smail. A few months later a first self-titled demo followed in the summer of 1986. After Terry Weston had joined the band as the second guitarist, a second demo followed in November 1986 with More Graveyard Delving . The first local appearances followed. Through the demos and local appearances, the band reached a contract with New Renaissance Records , which in 1987 released the album Journey Into Mystery . The song Method to Madness was also featured on the New Renaissance Records compilation Speed Metal Hell Vol. 3 . After bassist Williams left the band to join Eviction , Richard Freund joined the band as a new member. Another demo, Ode to Sorrow, followed in 1988. Then the band broke up in the spring of 1989. The members then founded the band Penance , which was based on classic Doom Metal . Drummer Smail would later appear on Cathedral's first album .

Towards the end of 2011, the band reunited, with the group consisting of Lawrence, Smail, Weston, and Freund. The band made their first appearance on April 21, 2012 in Pittsburgh. The band played a new song and continued to work on new material. In February 2013 the next album Somnium Excessum followed in self- release . The band's third studio album, Dissemination , was released in March 2016 on the Rise Above Records label .

style

The band plays a mixture of Doom - and Death-Metal , whereby the music is harder compared to classic Doom-Metal bands like Candlemass and there are also faster passages in the songs. The band is considered to be a co-initiator of Death Doom . Lyrically, the songs deal with "the interactions between life and death" and serial killers like Jack the Ripper . In addition, some songs were also inspired by the works of Robert E. Howard . Brian Lawrence names bands like Black Sabbath , Candlemass, Trouble , Witchfinder General , Angel Witch and Celtic Frost as his main influences. The band also processed influences from Thrash Metal . Her debut album Journey Into Mystery is considered a classic.
