The pedestrian bridge over Schenkendorfstrasse is a suspension bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over Schenkendorfstrasse in Munich . It stands between the end of BAB 9 and Ungererstraße. It should not be confused with the Schenkendorf Bridge , a cable-stayed bridge for trams , pedestrians and cyclists, which is located further west between the end of the motorway and Leopoldstraße .

description

The pedestrian bridge over Schenkendorfstrasse is a rare example of a suspension bridge with only one suspension cable running over the longitudinal axis, which is supported by A-shaped pylons . With a span of almost 70 m, it crosses Schenkendorfstrasse, a section of the Middle Ring , which at this point, including the entry and exit lanes and the access to the BAB 9 to Nuremberg, has a total of 10 lanes and two footpaths and cycle paths. Besides Ungererstraße, it is the only connection between the newly built district on Berliner Straße in the south of Schenkendorfstraße and the Alte Heide district north of the bridge with the primary school there and the sports fields.

The way to the bridge begins opposite the confluence of Schinkelstraße with Berliner Straße with an inconspicuous path between the Marriott Hotel and an office building, and climbs up on a flat ramp to the actual bridge. The walkway, which is supported by two outwardly inclined, A-shaped pylons, slightly arched and around 3.7 m wide, crosses the street at a height of more than 6 m. On the north side, a longer ramp leads through a small green area at the end of Guerickestrasse. From there, a path leads past the sports fields to Fröttmaninger Straße or through an underpass under the motorway to the Highlight Towers and Parkstadt Schwabing .

Technical details

The pylons each consist of two supports, the tips of which meet in the pylon head. The supports consist of three steel tubes that are connected to one another by cross braces and converge at the base and at the top. The pylons stand on concrete piles that extend several meters into the ground. A 95 mm thick suspension rope is stretched between the pylon heads over the longitudinal axis of the bridge , with a span of 69.12 m and a sag of 5 m or 1/14 of the span. From the pylon heads, two sloping, 70 mm thick ropes lead to the ground anchors.

The walkway is optically determined by the tubes on its outer sides, which serve as longitudinal beams and to which the lower chord and the walkway sheet are welded. The surface consists of a 10 mm sealing layer and a 70 mm mastic asphalt layer. The bridge railings are provided with a solid metal grid, which not only serves for safety, but also prevents the formation of wind eddies that could cause the bridge to vibrate. The walkway is welded onto seven tubular cross members that protrude far beyond it. The ends of the crossbeams are attached to the central support rope with hanging ropes, the hanging ropes having approximately the same lateral angle of inclination as the pylons. In addition, to stiffen the bridge, the ends of the cross beams are connected with 30 mm thick edge ropes that are anchored in the ground at an angle outside the abutments.

The bridge is designed not only for pedestrians and cyclists but also for use by a 4.2 t heavy snow removal vehicle.
