Ezhar Cezairli (2011)

Ezhar Cezairli (* 1962 in Antakya , Antiochia ) is a German-Turkish dentist , cultural activist and, as a representative of secular Muslims, is a member of the German Islam Conference and a local politician of the CDU in Frankfurt am Main . She is the chairwoman of the Turkish-German Club Frankfurt e. V. and co-founder of the “Frankfurt Initiative for Progressive Women”.

Cezairli moved from Turkey to Weil am Rhein in 1970 . She studied dentistry in Hanover, initially worked as an employed dentist in Peter Kunter's practice and since 1998 has run her own practice in downtown Frankfurt. Cezairli is married and has two children. She sees herself as a secular Muslim woman. It is not defined by its religious affiliation, but by its affiliation to society. Religion is a private matter for them.

She represents the positions of the secular and liberal Muslims within the German Islam Conference. She is a member of the initiative of secular and secular citizens from Islamic countries of origin in Hesse , whose principles are the separation of religion and state, the rejection of religiously motivated violence, a commitment to the Basic Law as well as equal rights for men and women and the right to religious freedom . Among other things, the initiative advocates Islamic studies in schools and criticized the claim of the Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany to speak for all Muslims in Germany. According to Cezairli, it is not in the spirit of Islam for an institution to stand between God and the individual. The initiative also works against restricting compulsory schooling for Muslim children in physical education , swimming and sex education, as well as against anti-Semitism .

In the local elections on March 27, 2011, she was elected to the Frankfurt city council from the CDU list. There she is a member of the Committee on Education and Integration and the Committee on Business and Women.
