The building with the postal address Fährstraße 20/21 is a listed building on Fährstraße in Stralsund .

Description, history

The plaster, four-storey and zwölfachsige , traufständige house was built in 1952 in place of the bombing of Stralsund on October 6, 1944 destroyed buildings erected. Because it was built as a gap between the preserved historical buildings, it was designated as an individual monument by the monument office in 2001, even though it is barely 50 years old. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 171.

The management company (BIG Bauen + Wohnen GmbH) retrofitted all the apartments in the house during the renovation to meet the latest requirements, including balconies. The newly designed inner courtyard was greened. The facade is kept simple and structured symmetrically. The two central axes are highlighted and designed as a bay window above the ground floor ; a triangular gable closes the axes. There is an information board on the facade that refers to the monument and also to the memorial plaque for Ferdinand von Schill , which is embedded in the sidewalk. Schill died fighting here on May 31, 1809 (see Schill Memorial ). On the house there is an additional inscription in capitals:

The house is located in the core area of ​​the city ​​area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the historical old towns Stralsund and Wismar .
