content

Based on the experiences of six residents, the film shows a mosaic of Venice away from the tourist crowds and sights. In doing so, he questions what actually defines a city. Buildings, culture and inhabitants are highlighted as essential parts, as well as a certain attitude towards life or an idea, both of which are difficult to define. Going beyond the picturesque setting and the crime novels of Donna Leon, Venice is also home to ordinary residents who go about their business every day. How is life here? The film asks an archivist, a chambermaid, an archaeologist, an artist, a former thief and a child.

reception

In the film magazine Schnitt, Nicole Ribbecke criticized the film's rigid narrative style, but praised Luca Bigazzi's “picturesque images that not only loosen up the conservative narrative structure, but also the narrow streets and canals”. The “atmospheric city panoramas” are also “always aptly, sometimes almost comedic” by Eleni Karaindrou.

Movie title

The film contains a play on words in the original title Sei Venezia , since "Sei" in Italian stands for both the number six and the second person singular of the verb essere ( German to be ). The title can therefore mean “Six (Mal) Venice” as well as “You are Venice” in the original Italian, which is no longer expressed in the German title “6 × Venice”.
