The Färberturm (also Diebesturm ; formerly Powder Tower ) is part of the medieval city fortifications of the city of Gunzenhausen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-136-1 as a monument in the Bavarian monument list. The tower is located on the corner of Weißenburger Strasse / Kirchenstrasse with the address Weißenburger Strasse 13 . It stands near the Weißenburger Tor, which was demolished in the middle of the 19th century .

The round tower comes as the rest of town fortifications from the 14th century; the monument list entry for the Weißenburger Strasse ensemble (E-5-77-136-4), however, mentions the 15th century. The building was used both as a powder tower and as a prison , which explains the nickname of the dyer tower. The current name comes from a former dye works that was not far from the building. The tower consists of humpback blocks .
