Félix Lecoy

Félix Lecoy (born December 23, 1903 in Tunis , † November 23, 1997 in Paris ) was a French Romanist and Medievalist.

life and work

Lecoy was a student of the École Normale Supérieure (1923-1926), studied with Mario Roques and made the Agrégation de grammaire (1926). He was then a high school teacher in Tunis (1927) and Algiers (1933). He completed his habilitation with the two theses Recherches sur le Libro de buen amor de Juan Ruiz (Paris 1938, 1974, 1998) and (Ed.) La "Bible" au seigneur de Berzé (Paris 1938). From 1938 he taught as Maître de conférences at the University of Dijon . He took part in the World War and was interned in Switzerland. From 1944 to 1947 he was a professor in Dijon, from 1947 to 1974 (as the successor to Mario Roques ) at the Collège de France (Chair for French Language and Medieval Literature) and at the École pratique des hautes études (Romance Philology). From 1961 he was the successor of Mario Roques, the magazine Romania . He was a member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres (1966, successor: Michel Zink) and knight of the Legion of Honor.
