Foehrer Ley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Föhrer Ley ( North Frisian : Fering Lei ) is a tidal flux in the Wadden Sea of the North Sea . It is located northeast of the island of Föhr .

At Wyk auf Föhr , the Norderaue merges into the Dagebüller fairway , which runs towards Dagebüll , and into the Föhrer Ley, which runs east of Föhr to the north. A creek leads past the Föhrer Ostspitze Näshörn to the mainland at Südwesthörn - there used to be a small harbor there - while the actual Föhrer Ley as a narrow, long creek separates the sandbank “Föhrer Shoulder” from the sandbanks of the mainland and with the Hörnumtief connected to the north. It thus connects two tidal basins and consequently runs transversely to their wading height divide. The tidal gutters in this area deepen so that more water is exchanged between the two tidal basins.
