Forester's Cross

The Försterkreuz is a historic stone cross in the non-parish area of Feuchter Forst in the central Franconian district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria .

location

The stone cross is located about 1.8 kilometers northeast of the market town of Feucht , north of the north bypass at a fork in the forest road .

description

damage

The present location of the atonement cross is not the original location. The cross used to stand about a kilometer east of Feucht. The stone cross originally stood near the present Company Atotech (previously Schering electroplating) ( 49 ° 22 '54.91 "  N , 11 ° 13' 19.42"  O ) and had to give way to the construction of industrial buildings. Thanks to the initiative of the former Feucht Forestry Office, the cross was saved and found a new location at its current location. The administration of the Bavarian State Forests put up an information board on site in 2017.

The cross is made of sandstone and about 115 cm high, 55 cm wide and 30 cm deep. The left arm is missing and a ploughshare and a ploughshare were incised on the front . The damage is said to result from the fact that people used to look for treasures here, and the gold-hungry treasure hunters then damaged the cross out of anger over their failure. In its original location it was at the foot of an oak tree. Around 1900 a dowser suspected that gold was buried here. The cross was dug up, but nothing was found. The stone cross remained in place until 1936 the "German Stone Cross Research" put it up again.

History and legend

The backside

The relic is believed to have originated around 1510. The name Försterkreuz comes from the legend that a forester shot his son here out of caution. According to the agricultural chiselling, a farmer could also have died here in an accident.
