Atotech BV operates in more than 40 countries and operates chemical and plant production facilities in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Spain, China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and the USA. The parent company employs 4,000 people.

The company was founded in 1993 when the Elf Atochem Group merged its M&T Harshaw division with the Schering electroplating division.

The biggest competitor is MacDermid Performance Solutions .

history

As part of the “Schering electroplating division”, Atotech's roots go back to 1895, when Schering patented a process for leaching gold and silver using potassium cyanide . In 1901 the electroplating division was established and produced salt mixtures for the storage of metals - brand name Trisalyt.

In 1936, the electroplating division developed the first "fast" electrolyte - "Copper Trisalyt Extra Rapid" - and the shiny zinc bath "Brillant". The success of these innovations led to the establishment of the first department for electroplating plant construction.

In 1951, Schering AG opened the electroplating division in Feucht , Germany, where Atotech has its main production facility for systems to this day. In 1989 the electroplating division moved into a new facility in Berlin, Germany.

In 1993 Schering AG sold its electroplating division to the French chemical company ELF Atochem. The ELF Atochem Group merged its M&T Harshaw subsidiary with the electroplating division of Schering AG and thus founded Atotech Deutschland GmbH.

After the creation of production facilities and service centers in Germany, further production and service networks followed in other European countries, in Asia and in North and South America.

Today Atotech's core business consists of decorative and functional surface finishing, printed circuit boards as well as the complementary areas of electronic materials, chip carrier and semiconductor technologies. The company provides custom manufacturing systems and local service to customers around the world.

At the end of 2016 Atotech was sold by Total to the Carlyle Group .
