Føroya Studentaskúli og HF-skeið is the name of a higher education school in Hoydalar , a district of Hoyvík , the northern suburb of the Faroese capital Tórshavn .
Development so far
The secondary school was founded in 1937 and moved to the site of a former lung sanatorium in a sheltered valley in Hoydalar in 1962 with the Viðarlundin í Niðara Hoydali park ("The wood in the lower Heutal") in the immediate vicinity.
The school center is now the largest secondary school in the Faroe Islands with almost 800 students and 100 teachers. Herleif Hammer has been the headmaster since the beginning of 2014. The name of the school already indicates a fundamental dichotomy. On the one hand, there is a three-year grammar school upper level ( studentsútbúgving ), which is aimed at students under the age of 18 and roughly corresponds to upper secondary level in Germany. On the other hand, there is a two-year adult high school ( HF-útbúgving ), which is aimed at people over 18 years of age who want further training. (HF is the abbreviation for hægri fyrireikingarprógv, i.e. higher preparatory examination )
In addition to languages and the natural sciences and technology, the subjects taught also include social sciences, art, music and sport.
Future development
Due to cramped conditions, not only in Hoydalar ( Føroya Studentaskúli ), but also at the commercial school ( Føroya Handilsskúli ) and the technical school in Tórshavn ( Tekniski Skúlin í Tórshavn ), planning began in 2008 for a spacious joint school center in Marknagil in Tórshavn. The new school center ( Skúladepilin ) has been under construction since 2014 , although there were construction delays. The new school center called Glasir - Tórshavn College is expected to go into operation in the 2017 school year.
