Peggy Stern (producer)

Peggy Stern (born February 19, 1957 in New York City ) is an American film producer and director .

Life

Stern studied at Harvard University from 1976 to 1980 and developed - not least because she is dyslexic - a great interest in the development and education of children. Stern's focus was on film and new media as a means of imparting knowledge.

Her documentary Stephanie was released in 1986 . The film is about teenager Stephanie, a girl who lived in Stern's neighborhood at the time and had major school problems, and was made over a period of six years. Most recently, Stern follows her through her senior year of high school. The film was shown at the London Film Festival , among others .

In 1992, Stern worked for the first time with John Canemaker : Both realized the film project The Galaxy Classroom Project , which was dedicated to an interactive learning program for schools. In 2000, Sterm founded the film production company Gladeye Films, with which she financed Canemaker's biographical short animated film The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation in 2006 . Canemaker and Stern received an Oscar for the film in 2006 in the category of Best Animated Short Film.

In 2013, Stern founded the online platform Dyslexiaville, which is intended to provide information about dyslexia and provide help to those affected. She is also present at conferences across the US to talk about dyslexia and strategies to improve reading and spelling skills.

Stern is married and has two children.
