The Fürstenberg Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Horst district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Gelsenkirchen . It was the home ground of the Emscherhusaren called STV Horst-Emscher .
The stadium was built in 1928. After the Emscher Hussars were able to temporarily place themselves in front of local rivals FC Schalke 04 after the Second World War , the city of Gelsenkirchen decided to expand the stadium. A covered grandstand was opened in 1956.
The Fürstenberg Stadium has a capacity of 23,140 spectators. The attendance record dates back to 1957. The local derby between STV Horst-Emscher and FC Schalke 04 attracted 30,000 spectators to the facility. The stadium has an athletics facility ( cinder track ). There is another ash area available next to the lawn .
After the dissolution of STV Horst-Emscher in the 2007/08 season and the relocation of the second team of FC Schalke 04, which used the stadium from January 2006 to June 2008, the Fürstenberg Stadium is now only used by the regional division club BV Horst-Süd 1962 utilized.
Since 2015 the Fürstenberg Stadium has also been used as a venue for the American Football Club Gelsenkirchen Devils eV.
