Zvenigorod Principality

The Principality of Zvenigorod (Ukrainian Звенигородське князівство ) was a principality within the Kievan Rus around Zvenigorod Castle from around 1084 to 1444 in what is now western Ukraine . It should not be confused with the principalities of the same name near Moscow and on the Upper Oka .

history

Around 1084 the principalities of Zvenigorod , Terebowlja and Peremysl were founded within the Principality of Volhynia . Zvenigorod went to Volodar Rostislavich , the others to his brothers. The Nestor Chronicle mentions Zvenigorod Castle for the first time in 1087.

In 1141 the principality united with Peremysl and Terebowlja, in 1144 the seat was moved to Halitsch .

In 1239 the area was subordinated to the Khanate of the Golden Horde . In 1349 the Kingdom of Poland came into being , finally in 1392.

The principality bordered on the west by the Principality Peremysl , on the north by the Principality of Volhynia and the east by the Principality Terebovlia .
