Fırat Anlı

Fırat Anlı (* 1971 in Diyarbakır ) is a Kurdish politician of the Democratic Party of Bölgeler Partisi .

Anlı spent his school days in Diyarbakır and then completed a law degree at Dicle University . He was chairman of HADEP and DEHAP of Diyarbakır. In 2004 he became mayor of Yenişehir in Diyarbakır. He later ran for mayor of Bingöl and became chairman of the DTP in Diyarbakır. In the criminal proceedings against the PKK , the so-called KCK proceedings , Anlı was arrested in 2009 and sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

Anlı was elected to the municipal council of Diyarbakır for the Democratic Party of Bölgeler Partisi in the 2014 local elections and was subsequently elected deputy (in the parlance of the party co-mayor) of Mayor Validan Kışanak . During this time Anlı ran within the party to be nominated for the National Assembly in a constituency for the Halkların Demokratik Partisi .

On October 25, 2016, he was arrested on the same day as Validan Kışanak on suspicion of supporting terrorism. As a result, Diyarbakır was placed under compulsory administration. He was released from pretrial detention in July 2017, but another arrest warrant was issued a few days later. Anlı went into hiding and fled Turkey. He currently lives in Switzerland .
