The FC Saint-Louis was a traditional French football club based in the municipality of Saint-Louis in Alsace Haut-Rhin department , which consisted 1911-1990.

history

The club was founded in Sankt Ludwig in 1911 as the Sankt Ludwig football club . At that time, the municipality of Sankt Ludwig belonged to the Mulhouse district in the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . Today it is called Saint-Louis, is located near the German- French- Swiss border triangle and borders directly on the city of Basel .

After Alsace fell back to France after the First World War , the club entered under its French name FC Saint-Louis . The club played in the 1919/20 season, from 1923 to 1927, in the 1929/30 season and from 1935 to 1937 in the highest French regional class, the Alsatian Ehrendivision ( Division d'Honneur Alsace ) and in 1936 was Alsatian champion.

During the German occupation of France in World War II from 1940 to 1944, the football clubs from Alsace-Lorraine took part in the games of the German Reich . The FC Saint-Louis now appeared again under its German name FC Sankt Ludwig . He was accepted into the Gauliga Alsace in 1940 , but rose as the bottom of the table in the Oberelsass season after the 1940/41 season in the local district league.

Since 1945, the club played again as FC Saint-Louis in the French league system and was a regular participant in the Alsatian honor division, whose championship he won in 1946, 1949, 1952, 1968 and 1974. For several years, FC Saint-Louis also played in a higher national class. In the seasons 1949/50, 1952/53, from 1968/69 to 1971/72 and from 1974/75 to 1977/78, the club belonged to the highest French amateur class , which was the third division at that time. From 1978/79 to 1979/80 there were two seasons in the fourth division, division 4. After that, the club only played in the Alsatian area.

In the seasons 1926/27 , 1927/28 , 1928/29 , 1930/31 , 1932/33 , 1933/34 , 1968/69 , 1969/70 , 1970/71 , 1971/72 and 1974/75 FC Saint -Louis the national main round of the French Cup .

The FC Saint-Louis merged in June 1990 with the neighboring club FC Neuweg to form FC Saint-Louis Neuweg .
