The FC Vilnius was a Lithuanian football club from the capital Vilnius . The club colors were red and white.

history

The club was founded on January 4, 2001 under the name FK Sviesa Vilnius and appeared for the first time in 2002 in the second division, where the fourth place in the table was immediately achieved. Since second in the table Polonija Vilnius ( farm team from Žalgiris Vilnius ) and third Jėgeriai Kaunas (farm team from FBK Kaunas ) were not eligible for promotion, the team played against the penultimate of the A Lyga , Geležinis Vilkas Vilnius , in the relegation games. A 1-0 home win was followed by a 1-2 away defeat, which meant that promotion could be celebrated according to the away goals rule .

In the first first division season, the club reached the penultimate place, which, however, did not result in any more relegation games. In 2004 the name was changed to FC Vilnius. Under the new name, the team ended the 2004 season, though beaten at the bottom of the table, but since the league was expanded from eight to ten teams, the club remained first class.

2005 achieved the best result in the club's history with fifth place, a year later the team finished seventh.

After relegation from the first division in the 2007 season, they finished eighth in the second-rate 1 Lyga the following year . After the season, the game in professional football was discontinued.
