The Fédération internationale des ligues des droits de l'Homme ( FIDH ) is an umbrella organization of various human rights organizations , based in Paris . The FIDH was founded in 1922 by the French League for Human Rights with the participation of the German League for Human Rights and other like-minded organizations.

In 1948 two representatives of the FIDH, René Cassin and Joseph Paul-Boncour , contributed to the formulation of the “ Universal Declaration of Human Rights ” of the United Nations .

The FIDH sees itself as bipartisan, non-denominational and independent of any government. Its core mission is to promote respect for all rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights .

The FIDH is an association of 192 human rights organizations (as of April 2020) and is represented in 112 countries on all continents.

The FIDH has advisory status with the United Nations, UNESCO and the Council of Europe, as well as observer status with the African Commission for Human and Peoples' Rights, the International Organization of the Francophonie and the International Labor Organization .

Principles

Each national league affiliated to the federation is committed to the principles contained in the French Declarations of Human Rights of 1789 and 1793 and the General Declaration of 1948.

Every national league makes it its task to ensure that these principles are observed in their own country and that they are strictly enforced in public life and in the state and household apparatus.

financing

The FDH had revenues of $ 8.880 million in 2017 and $ 8.660 million in 2018. 63% of these consist of donations and grants. This compares with spending of $ 8.389 million in 2018 and $ 8.823 million in 2017.
