FM (No Static at All) is a song by the American rock jazz band Steely Dan . It is the cover story of the 1978 film FM . It reached number 22 on the Billboard charts. The song was more successful than the movie, which was a flop.

Music and lyrics

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker had n't written any film music for seven years . In 1971, a year before Steely Dan released their debut album, they wrote the music for the film You've Got to Walk It Like You Talk It or You'll Lose That Beat .

Musically it is a jazz-rock composition, typical of the band's sound from that time. In the lyrics, the album-oriented rock format of many FM radio stations was viewed critically at the time. It was Steely Dan's first single to be released on MCA Records , which had released the soundtrack. It was recorded during the Aja sessions .
