FPC connector
FPC connector are flexible printed circuit boards ( English Flexible Printed Circuits ) that the connection of electronic modules with at least one degree of freedom are used.
They are mostly printed circuits that are built up on a flexible plastic carrier , for example polyimide , Mylar or nylon , but mostly polyester film . Copper is the most common conductor material , silver is used less often, and the contact areas are also gold-plated for increased requirements . For low-cost applications, there were designs with paper as the carrier material up until the 1970s, which are no longer in use today for reasons of fire protection.
The most popular applications of FPC connectors with one degree of freedom in everyday life are e.g. B. the connection to the printhead in printers or in laptops the connection between screen and computer. In robotics , much more complex FPC connectors are used to control the motor system and evaluate the sensor system, which must allow up to three degrees of freedom and many millions of operating cycles.
