The railcars of the MAC fc e 5111 to 5130 series were a series of direct current electric railcars that were used by the Italian railway company Società per le Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo , operator of the Rete Mediterranea , from the Ferrovie Varesine , which was electrified with conductor rails .
The railcars were designed by General Electric ; the boxes were built in wood by the OM machine factory in Milan . As a concept, they recalled the Interurban cars from the USA.
In 1905 the railcars were taken over by the Ferrovie dello Stato and classified as group E.10 (with company numbers E.101 to 120). They were taken out of service around 1923: the drives were used to build the E.620 series locomotives , the wagons were still used as sidecars.
