Fabian Nicieza (born December 31, 1961 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is an American comic book writer with Argentinian roots.

Nicieza, who originally came from the advertising industry, joined Marvel Comics as an editor in the mid-1980s , before writing his first stand-alone series in the small series New Warriors in 1990. Positive feedback led him to co - author the X-Men spin-off series New Mutants (later renamed X-Force ) with Rob Liefeld . Here they created u. a. the grim mercenary Cable and the sarcastic antihero Deadpool , who initially became his archenemy and later his good friend. Other works by Nicieza include: a. Captain Marvel , Cable & Deadpool , and some editions of Spider-Man .

Nicieza wrote the short-lived comic NFL SuperPro (1991) about the football player Phil Grayfield, who brings justice in an indestructible football uniform. This was the first collaboration between Marvel Comics and the US football league NFL , but the stories themselves were panned by criticism.
