The Landesmusikakademie Hessen (LMAH) in Schlitz is a central state institution for musical and cultural training and further education as well as a meeting place and meeting place for music and culture enthusiasts from the amateur and professional sectors. The LMAH is also open to guests from outside the state of Hesse.

history

On May 19, 1995, the State Music Council of Hesse founded the Hessian Academy for Music and Cultural Education as a non-profit company . After a thorough examination, Hallenburg Castle in Schlitz was chosen as the location . The Hessian state government was on 14 November 2000 by Cabinet decision approving the formation and promotion of the Academy. After a long period of vacancy, the castle and the surrounding buildings were renovated from 2001 to 2006 and expanded and rebuilt for the LMAH. The academy began operating gradually from October 2003, the official opening took place on February 4, 2004. The academy has around 25,000 visitors a year.

tasks

Preserving and passing on the values ​​of musical culture and education is the aim of the LMAH. To this end, the LMAH takes on different roles:

  • Venue of state-wide music competitions (state competition Jugend musiziert Hessen, Hessian choir and orchestra competition, Louis Spohr competition) and international master classes
  • Organizer of concerts, theater, cabaret and readings
  • Provider of advanced and advanced training in the field of music, education and culture
  • Rehearsal location of the state youth ensembles, the Peter Herbolzheimer European Jazz Academy, the Hessian school theater meeting
  • Sponsor of the Hessen Youth Percussion Ensemble
  • Conference and seminar facility for the Hessian Ministry of Culture, clubs and associations, general education schools, music schools and music colleges

The LMAH is funded by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art .

The sole shareholder is the State Music Council of Hesse .

The association “Friends and Sponsors of the Hessian Academy for Music and Cultural Education” was founded on October 31, 2001 with the aim of promoting the work of the LMAH through financial and material support, as well as non-material support.
