Fabio Sacchi (born May 23, 1974 in Milan ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Career

Fabio Sacchi became a professional at Polti in 1997 . He then drove at Saeco and Fassa Bortolo before moving to the Italian-German team Milram in 2006 . Sacchi took part in the Tour de France four times and won stages in the Tour of Murcia , the Tour Down Under and the Tour of Portugal . He celebrated his greatest success in 2005 near Milan-Turin . In 2009 he ended his professional career. He then took part in Gran Fondos and in 2009 won the prestigious Gran Fondo Nove Colli .

At the Giro d'Italia 2006 he set a record as a water carrier with 18 water bottles carried .

doping

In an investigation report by the Anti-Doping Commission of the French Senate in July 2013, Sacchi was accused of being among around 60 drivers who, on the basis of follow-up tests in 2004, had doped with the blood formation hormone erythropoietin (EPO for short) at the 1998 Tour de France could be proven.
