Map with the Motte-Bossut factory (around 1900)

The Motte-Bossut factory was a cotton mill in Roubaix until 1981 . The building, built from 1866 to 1891 on Boulevard du Général Leclerc No. 78, was included in the list of architectural monuments in France in 1978 as Monument historique .

description

The over one hundred meter long factory building in the neo-Gothic style was built by the entrepreneur Louis Motte after the fire in the previous building. The five-story brick building with a huge chimney that towers above the building has around 300 windows. The factory was expanded several times, which is why it was only completed in 1891. Two hexagonal towers, one of which is used as a chimney, flank the main entrance. They end with battlements .

Todays use

The Archives nationales du monde du travail has been located in the building since 1993 . It was rebuilt according to plans by the architect Alain Sarfat.
