The textbook publisher Pfannenberg GmbH & Co. KG is a German publishing company in Haaner district Gruiten .

The publishing house was founded in Gießen in 1949 with the aim of continuing the work of the Heinrich Killinger publishing house , which existed until 1945 . The focus in the publishing program remained confectionery and hospitality. In the 1970s, the publishing house continued to specialize, focusing on the publishing of school and specialist books for the catering and food processing industries.

In 1997 the Europa-Lehrmittel publishing house took over the company from its founder. In addition to expanding the range of books, electronic media such as CDs and DVDs have also been produced and sold since then. Since then, the seat of the GmbH is in Haan-Gruiten next to Europa-Lehrmittel .

The first Pfanneberg apps appeared in 2016. With up to 1000 questions, they offer preparation for the exam as a chef, hotel or restaurant specialist.

One of the publisher's most important books is Der Junge Koch by the authors Grüner, Metz and Hummel. It has been sold over 500,000 times since its first edition in 1937 and is considered a standard work . At the literary competition of the Gastronomic Academy of Germany , the work was awarded the gold medal in 1974 and 2019. It now appears under the title The Young Cook / The Young Cook . For the 37th edition, the book was fundamentally revised in 2018, re-illustrated and published as a combination of media along with additional web support.
