Hornheide Specialist Clinic
The Hornheide Specialist Clinic is a special clinic for diseases of the skin , teeth, oral cavity, jaw and face, as well as for plastic and reconstructive surgery in Münster in Westphalia . The associated skin tumor center is an important interdisciplinary center for the treatment of skin tumors in Germany. The clinic is located in the Dorbaum district of Münster .
history
In 1932, the first director of the Department of Dermatology , Alfred Stühmer, founded the " Lupus Heilstätte" Haus Hornheide at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , primarily for the treatment of skin tuberculosis (lupus vulgaris) . There, with the cure of Katharina Flütotte in 1943, the breakthrough in the treatment of tuberculosis was achieved : For the first time in the world, the disease was successfully cured with tuberculostatics developed by Gerhard Domagk . With the decline in tuberculosis diseases in the 1960s, the clinic's focus increasingly shifted to treating benign and malignant onesTumors of the skin and mucous membranes and the head and neck region. In addition, the treatment of chronic inflammatory skin diseases and recovery from accidents, burns , tumor diseases, infections and malformations were added. The epithesis center for the restoration of facial defects in the specialist field of maxillofacial surgery is the largest of its kind in the Federal Republic of Germany. The Reconstructive Breast Center carries out plastic-surgical breast reconstruction after tumor diseases for the oncological breast centers in the region. Other focal points are the therapy of lipedema, recovery after massive weight loss and microsurgery. Aesthetic operations are now also performed.
Departments of the clinic
The Hornheide Specialist Clinic has the departments of Anesthesia , Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Therapy , Dermatology , Dermatological Radiation Therapy and Dermatopathohistology, Internal Oncology and Hematology , Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery . In addition to the clinical departments with 140 beds, there is a department for psychosocial oncology and rehabilitation.
The Hornheide Specialist Clinic is affiliated with the clinics of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster with interdisciplinary clinical and scientific tasks. Since 2018, the Chair of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Münster has been located at the University Clinic and at the Hornheide Specialist Clinic.
