The Fachschule für Obst- und Weinbau Silberberg is a technical college for fruit and viticulture and the associated state winery in the Leibnitz municipality in the district of the same name in the southern Styria wine-growing region .

history

The Silberberg viticulture school was founded in 1895 and was the basis of today's state winery Silberberg. The Styrian provincial government supported viticulture in Styria very strongly and not only financed the school, but also took over wine-growing businesses in need in the First Republic , incorporated them into the state winery and managed them as such. Since many of these wineries were located on the newly created state border, the wine-growing region also received the first borderland funding .

The Silberberg winery today (as of 2019) has a size of 25 hectares and was founded in 1985 through the merging of the state wineries Silberberg , Kitzeck , Schlossberg , Remschnigg and Glanz . The winery and processing was built in Silberberg.

The wineries consist of around 10 hectares of small terraces. In addition, a steep slope cultivation system was developed in Silberberg in order to be able to use the steepest and often sunniest places in the Sausal for viticulture.
