Traveling postal school
The Fahrende Postschule was an institution of the Deutsche Bundespost .
Under the motto “ Get to know your post ”, 18 converted post buses have been provided by the Post Office Directorates as mobile advice centers for school classes since 1959 . The last trip by a “moving postal school” was on July 23, 1974.
Inside the buses there was a small post office (often with its own special stamp ) where the students could learn how to handle letters and parcels correctly . This included, for example, the format of address and sender, postcodes , parcel cards and franking with postage stamps .
The area of the gray post , the telecommunications service at that time, was covered by various telephones , one learned how to use these devices, which were not yet widely used at the time; The "keep it short!", a hint from the telephone booths of that time, was also explained.
As an example of the telegram service , there were working teleprinters inside the buses.
In addition to public relations in schools, these post school buses were also used on open days , exhibitions, trade fairs and other occasions.
