Fahri Atabey

Fahri Atabey (* 1913 in Istanbul ; † August 2, 1994 ) was a Turkish medic and between 1968 and 1973 mayor of the city of Istanbul.

Life

After completing his studies at the medical faculty of Istanbul University in 1937, Atabey worked as an assistant doctor at the Military Medical Academy Gülhane from 1940 . In 1943 he specialized in gynecology and obstetrics .

Between 1947 and 1950 Atabey was working in England and after his return to Turkey he was again an assistant doctor, but this time at the medical faculty of Istanbul University. From 1952 he was chief physician at the Zeynep-Kâmil Hospital .

After the military coup on May 27, 1960, Atabey lost his job. In the so-called baby-process in the Yassıada processes , he was next to Adnan Menderes because infanticide accused and the High Court acquitted. In 1963 he was reinstated as chief physician.

On June 8, 1968, Atabey was elected mayor of Istanbul for the Justice Party . He held the office as the successor to Faruk Ilgaz until December 9, 1973.

Atabey wrote a book on obstetrics and gynecology called Doğum ve jinekoloji (Birth and Gynecology). It was released in 1954.
