Faiq Zülfüqar oğlu Həsənov (with the World Chess Federation FIDE Faig Gasanov ; born April 13, 1940 in Kirowabad ) is an Azerbaijani chess referee , official and television presenter.

Life

Həsənov, who previously worked as a scientific secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture of the AsSSR , has been an international arbitrator since 1980. For the first time he oversaw an international tournament in Baku in 1964 . Chess events in which he was used as a referee include the 1984 and 1986 Chess Olympiads , title fights for the women's world chess championship, and other major tournaments. During the 2006 World Chess Championship between Kramnik and Topalow , which was overshadowed by the so-called toilet scandal, he was a member of the appeal committee.

Together with Garri Kasparow and Elmar Məhərrəmov , Həsənov was one of the editors of the bilingual chess magazine Schachmaty . As a co-author, he wrote several chess books. His performance as the TV presenter of the program Şahmat klubu , which he has presented for forty years, is unique . It is probably the oldest television program of its kind in the world that is still on the program today . It is produced weekly and broadcast by AzTV.

Həsənov, who holds the post of Vice President of the Azerbaijani Chess Federation, was awarded the Şöhrət Order in 2000 for his contribution to the development of the game of chess . In 2020 he was awarded the Şərəf Order . He is also an Honored Sportsman of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
