The Fairchild AT-21 ("Gunner") was a trainer aircraft that was used in the United States to train bomber pilots during World War II .
History and equipment
The first model of this machine, the Fairchild XAT-13, had two radial engines with an output of 447 kW (608 hp) and was made entirely of plywood. As armament, the Fairchild AT-21 has two 7.62 mm machine guns, one of which is in the bow and one in the gun turret on the rear of the fuselage, as well as a bomb bay. The prototype of the Fairchild XAT-14 had an in-line Ranger V-770-6 engine with an output of 388 kW (528 hp). The later production version, the Fairchild AT-21 Gunner, had no bomb bay but a 7.62 mm twin machine-gun on the top of the stern. A total of 175 copies of the Fairchild AT-21 Gunner were built.
